Well I got a coolant leak somewhere on the S4. Last weekend when driving to Portland, OR. it started overheating when we were stuck in traffic. I come out to the garage today to find a big puddle of coolant on the floor and zero coolant in the car. Thank god my wife now works at my friend's auto shop... we will see what the issue is now. Also, got a odd electric motor sound. Hard to explain but it sound like a electric motor running like mad. I don't think it is a bad turbo but something else. I hope it is not the Aux (after run) pump as I just replaced that last summer. I'm sorry to say, but once the auto loan is paid off it may be time to find something that is more reliable. Seems the more I baby this car the more it craps on me. The credit card can't take anymore... if you know what I mean. Update... So it is just a leak in the reservoir tank. So a easy fix with a new tank. Parts should be in tomorrow and replaced in no time. Likely time to do a coolant flush since it's mostly running on water.

The coolant reservoir had a crack at the bottom hose in the front and a leak in the hose between the t-fitting off the bottle which goes to the coolant pipe near the coolant temperature sensor. We are going to replace the CTS, hose, reservoir, cap, coolant, and hood prop (since it keeps trying to decapitate the person under the hood). We are also replacing the connector at the bottom of the bottle because it is partially broken.

dang this is crazy it seems like u have been having all the same problems i have been having ... the electric motor noise i have been having is the secondary airpump... i found out my coolant leak wasn't the coolant tank sadfully it is the little pipe on the back of the heads that tranfers coolant behind the two.. and then my car has been having the hestitation too and it has a bad miss fire just can't figure out which one ...

"Seems the more I baby this car the more it craps on me" I've noticed that if you baby the b5 S4 it will run like crap. My car runs best when she is regularly driven aggressively. I'm not sayin floor it every time you move but keep those turbos spoolin

My '01 S4 has a coolant leak too, which I've not been able to locate (then again, I haven't climbed under her or put her on jacks). It just gets low every 25 miles or so (yes, I do need to have it repaired of course). I recently moved to Vancouver WA (5 mi. from Portland), but haven't gotten a solid recommendation for a shop yet. You hate to just "pick one", since these cars can be so costly to repair, esp. if the mechanic isn't entirely honest. I narrowly escaped some very costly, over-priced and _unneeded_ repairs down in S.F. Bay Area before finding one of the "good guys". Anyway - thank you for your website,
